Emarati Children Photoshoot at the Palm Dubai

Beach photoshoots +four kids with amazingly fun personality + and beautiful weather =  a photographers dream. I had only heard of the Palm Island in Dubai, but visiting the family for their session was a great opportunity to meet a local family from the Emirates. They taught me so many things about the history and the culture that makes the UAE unique from their neighboring countries. I also learned a few family secrets from the girls on who snored louder, who got the most attention, and who had the worst hair days. Made me want my girls to grow up sooner, just to start sharing those funny facts with us.

I also wanted to capture the children experiencing the beach on their own terms, so I wasn’t too concerned about bringing props with me.

Twin toddlers playing at the Hiltons beach, Dubai

Confession: I’m NOT a morning person. I usually put my alarm on snooze at least 3 times, till I realize I’m late and start getting ready. However, since I’m a huge fan of the beach, OBVIOUSLY, I’ve noticed that capturing photographs in the very early morning makes a huge difference in the colors. So what do I do? I start taking bookings very early morning. At 6 and 7 am!

Since it’s a family session, the Saudi family came to Dubai well prepared for any weather. Having twins, they’re used to the ups and downs and 24/7 full activity. I was the only that came to the beach, not knowing what to expect. Looking at these toddlers, u could tell after only 10 mins which of the boys was the cute devil. Each one would run in the opposite direction and suddenly begin striking a pose. Having their mom, dad and my camera with me, all running after them was a lot of action, but it made each picture so worth it. I hope u think so too!

Newborn Portrait in Dubai, JBR Beach (7 days new)

I love working in the Jumairah Beach Residence, The Walk, for all kinds of portraits, especially family portraits. The beac lends itself to beautiful light in a natural setting, while the Dubai Marina tall buildings give other options for for a beautiful backdrop. I met the parents of David before a month of his birth. After meeting them for a maternity photo-shoot I realized that not only where they one of the sweetest and most generous couples, but that they also met each other in Dubai. So what better location for a photo-shoot than Dubai JBR? meeting at 5:30am, our goal was to capture the sunrise, and really have fun without the crowded sun-tan wanters.  1-week-old David was tiny! He just followed the camera and would yawn every now and then. I think even he was woken up too early!

One of my favourite spots in Dubai, is having the beach on one side, and very metropolitan buildings on the other. View full post »

Ramadan in Turkey, 2010

Yara at the Hagia Sophia, Turkey

It’s been a year exactly since I took this picture of Yara. I remember we spent two weeks in Turkey and it was amazing. The culture, nature, and people made the experience a truly memorable one. Growing up mostly in the western part of the world, I found that Turkey was unique in showing how people from different ethnicity, and religions all shared mutual respect to one another. I don’t think I have ever seen the same amount of visitors that were non-Muslim to Hagia Sophia as any other mosque. The scent of the place, and the history that it carried led us to realize how beautiful it was and yet, how insignificant our personal troubles were.

Although I didn’t take much pictures of Turkey as I would have liked to, due to the fact of not wanting to carry a bulky camera around AND hold the girls hands before they started jumping on one of the VIP tombstones, I did manage to capture this photo of Yara. It was one of the few moments of her being unusually calm and quiet.

Although I feel like Ramadan just finished a few weeks ago, so much of my life has changed. However these changes may be, I hope this month be a blessed one to all of us.

Taima at the Park

With the summer heat, hotter than ever, Dua’a and I still thought it was worth it to have an outdoor shoot. Armed with extra bottles of water, and an extra pair of hands (I brought my 4-yr-old daughter) I knew that this shoot needn’t have any additional props. Taima’s parents chose a location that they knew would be colorful, fun and appealing to their daughter. How could I argue with that?:)The best thing about Dubai, is that you have so many parks to choose from.

Taima had a blast running around and looking at the older boys playing foot-ball. The hardest part was having me, her mom, her dad, and my daughter Yara all run after her to stop her getting the ball from them.

We all ended the session by visiting the super-market next door and buying extra-cold icy drinks. Did I mention cold? The only proof of how warm it was, got brushed away when pics where edited:)I think it was worth it.
